Bethany Beach is the “quiet” resort community, great for families on vacation or retirees looking for a place to nest. There are no dance clubs, strip malls or outlets; Bethany is the place you want to go to look for great waves, home-town cooking and relaxing family getaways. It’s conveniently located just 20 minutes from Rehoboth and Ocean City, making it a great spot to rent for the summer while you look for a permanent home here!
Nestled between Bethany Beach and Rehoboth just across the Indian River Bridge is the small resort town of Dewey Beach, bordered on one side by the bay and the other by the pristine Atlantic Ocean. Dewey offers so much in the way of entertainment, such as a Marina, movies on the beach, bonfires, kayaking, parasailing and FREE PARKING M-W 5-11pm! The peaceful bay waters are popular for families with young children, avid sports enthusiasts, skim boarders and stand up pattleboarders.
On the border of Ocean City, MD and just south of Bethany Beach is the 7 mile beach stretch of Fenwick Island. With the bay on one side and the Atlantic on the other, you could easily be swimming in the ocean and within a 5 minute walk throw your crab traps in the bay. Its desirable location and miles of beautiful beaches are what makes Fenwick Island the perfect spot to buy your luxury coastal home. Fenwick also has a plethora of tiny knick knack shops, ice cream parlors, mini-golf and boutiques.
Just north of Dewey, Rehoboth Beach will never leave you feeling bored or short on fun activities. The mile long boardwalk has its own amusement park complete with ferris wheel and arcade, but if that’s not your style you could check out the movie theater, mini golf, go-karts, water parks or the nearby Delaware Seashore State Park. If you want to do some shopping there’s Tengar Outlets or if you’re a fisherman, check out Gordons Pond.
Founded in 1631 at the intersection of the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Henlopen, Lewes, Delaware is a walking town; within a half square mile you’ll find a Historic district, bed and breakfasts, restaurants and shops. It isn’t known for being a party town, geared more towards those who seek the rich heritage of the area or desire to explore the Seaside Nature Center and bird sanctuary.
Milton is another great example of historic Delaware, settled in 1675 and quickly becoming a major inland port. Today, many of the Victorian style homes and buildings still stand, attracting antiquer’s and historians alike to this well established community. There is a lot to see and do in Milton, not least of which is the Dogfish Head Brewery which offers scheduled tours daily. You could check out the Milton Historical Society, Dawn’s Country Market or Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge.
